Job Description
Reporting through the Supervisor, Water/Wastewater and under the direction of the Lead Hand, the Water/Wastewater Field Assistant is responsible for providing support and performing infrastructure operations and maintenance for water distribution system, wastewater/storm water collection systems, sewage pump stations, and storm water retention facilities.
Job Requirements
- Enrolled in a college engineering program or a relevant field. Operator In Training (OIT) certification in Water Distribution and/or WasteWater Collection, is preferred.
- Familiarity with water and wastewater properties and legislation, infrastructure, and asset management of municipal infrastructures.
- Proficient in the use of a computer and word processing and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and GIS.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction or as part of a team, and to respond appropriately to any situation which may rise.
- Ability to be certified to work in confined spaces including chambers and trenches, pump station wet wells and maintenance holes.
- Ability to operate light/heavy equipment including pickup truck, and become familiar with operating other equipment related to water/waste water activities.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification preferred.
- Class “G” driver’s license in good standing.
- Good communication (written and oral) and customer service skills with ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other departments/levels of government, and utilities.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with the MTO traffic control regulations and devices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
