About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide expertise, advise and recommendations on the implementation and coordination of the Ministry's Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process for Crown mine rehabilitation projects
• promote the ministry's environmental assessment process and its requirements
• work closely with legal services and the Indigenous Consultation and Partnerships Branch to ensure that all aspects of Indigenous consultation have been addressed
• prepare reports, briefing notes, media contact reports, draft minister's correspondence and other documents
• provide expert testimony at legal proceedings to support the ministry position
• represent the ministry on special projects, outreach and training to promote environmental assessment processes and provide advice to ministry staff, consultants and other agencies
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Specialized knowledge
You have knowledge of:
• and experience applying the Environmental Assessment Act and related environmental assessment review manuals, practices, guidelines and policies to ensure that the ministry's mandate can be supported by environmental assessment processes
• a wide range of environmental legislation, policies, guidelines and related precedents as they relate to environmental assessment to ensure that ministry requirements are addressed in the process
• the principles and practices of environmental science including ecosystem (e.g. land use, wetland and water quality interrelationships) and media specific natural environmental management components to promote sound environmental planning decisions
Project management and analytical skills:
• You demonstrate project management skills to plan, coordinate, and lead the evaluation of existing and anticipated impacts of mine rehabilitation projects and Class EA activities including undertaking studies related to waste, fisheries and wetlands, wildlife, acoustics, archeological, and cultural heritage
• You have demonstrated organizational and time-management skills to plan and coordinate the review of numerous submissions to ensure legislated timelines are met and the work is completed in accordance with established priorities
• You have demonstrated research and analytical skills to integrate planning and related environmental information in developing an assessment of emerging issues
Communication and interpersonal skills
You have demonstrated:
• negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills to resolve conflicting opinions and advance solutions by pursuing reasoned compromises or narrowing of issues
• interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and political acuity to lead public consultations and represent the ministry on special projects, and to provide advice to ministry staff, consultants and other agencies
• communication skills to prepare reports, briefing notes, and media contact reports, draft minister's correspondence and other documents
