Environmental Specialist
Spectrum Resource Group
Position: Intermediate Environmental Specialist
Location: Western Canada (AB/BC)
Position Type: Remote - Field-Based
About SRG
Spectrum Resource Group (SRG) is an integrated vegetation management and environmental services provider supporting the forestry, energy, mining, infrastructure, and utility sectors across Canada. Our Environmental Services Group (ESG) delivers biophysical assessments, environmental monitoring, permitting, and compliance services across diverse environments.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Specialist to support field-based projects across Western Canada. This role combines technical fieldwork, environmental monitoring, data interpretation, and reporting. This is a remote/home-based role with field work as required, and at the direction of ESG management.
Key Responsibilities
• Construction environmental monitoring and compliance inspections
• Wetland delineations and biophysical assessments
• Aquatic habitat and wildlife surveys
• Soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling
• Implementation of EMPs, erosion and sediment control, and spill response
• Technical report writing and regulatory documentation
• Coordination with clients, contractors, and regulators
Qualifications
• 3–6 years of environmental experience
• Degree or diploma in environmental or related field
• Professional designation preferred (P.Biol, R.P.Bio, P.Ag, AScT, etc.)
• Experience in mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects
• Background in wetland, aquatic, and/or biophysical assessments preferred
Work Environment
Remote-based role with frequent travel to field sites, long field days, and work in varying terrain and weather conditions. The (currently) small team has an operational foundation built on consistent and effective communication, collaboration throughout all organizational strata, accountability, strong team dynamic, with a particular focus on technical acumen and rigour. ESG management will never ask their team members to complete any task that they are not willing to do themselves. That being said, they have all completed a vast range of environmental field work in the many wonderful natural conditions Western Canada has to offer, so there are no free rides to be had. It is guaranteed though that they are willing and able to be standing out there in whatever miserable weather is currently present, all while ensuring that the required level of project support is provided. Individual successes feed team goals, and a constant drive for exceptional services delivery is what they strive for. High GPAs/Awards are great, but a strong work ethic, desire to learn, and hunger for continuous growth (personal and professional) are much better indicators of potential success within the ESG.
Why Join SRG
• Diverse environmental projects across Western Canada
• Supportive multidisciplinary team
• Advanced tools and GIS capabilities
• Commitment to environmental stewardship
