Job Summary

Sun Ridge Contracting is seeking an experienced Environmental Monitor / Environmental Consultant to support civil infrastructure and construction projects in British Columbia. Responsibilities include environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance oversight, pre-construction environmental assessments, environmental documentation, and coordination with project management, field crews, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives.

Work will be project-based and part-time/casual depending on project requirements, site conditions, environmental risk, and seasonal construction activities. This position is intended for an independent consultant or consulting professional capable of supporting projects on an as-needed basis.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

Experience providing environmental monitoring services for civil, highway, municipal, utility, mining, or infrastructure projects
Experience working under MoTI / Ministry of Transportation specifications, including SS 165, considered a strong asset
Knowledge of:
Migratory Birds Convention Act
BC Wildlife Act
Water Sustainability Act
Erosion and sediment control best practices
Riparian and aquatic protection measures
Experience conducting or coordinating:
Breeding bird nest surveys
Environmental inspections
Site environmental assessments
Environmental reporting and documentation
Ability to develop and implement mitigation measures and environmental procedures
Strong understanding of environmental compliance requirements on active construction sites
Valid BC driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to travel to project sites within British Columbia as required
Professional designation or eligibility considered an asset:
RPBio
P.Ag.
P.Geo.
P.Eng.
QEP or equivalent experience

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conduct environmental monitoring and inspections during construction activities
Perform or coordinate pre-clearing nest surveys and environmental assessments
Prepare environmental documentation including:
Daily field reports
Inspection reports
Environmental procedures
CEMP input and updates
Regulatory compliance documentation
Monitor erosion and sediment control measures and recommend corrective actions
Identify environmental risks and provide practical mitigation recommendations
Coordinate with project management, supervisors, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives
Participate in environmental incident investigations and corrective actions where required
Attend project meetings and provide environmental guidance to field personnel
Support seasonal shutdown and site stabilization planning where applicable
Represent Sun Ridge Contracting professionally with clients, consultants, regulators, and the public

Strong understanding of environmental legislation and construction compliance requirements
Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in active construction environments
Strong organizational, planning, and documentation abilities
Practical problem-solving approach suited to construction operations
Ability to balance environmental compliance with operational realities and project schedules
High level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail

Pay: $45.00-$75.00 per hour
