POSITION SUMMARY:
The HSE Coordinator is a field-facing safety leader responsible for planning, implementing, and continuously improving PVT Group’s Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programs. This role combines hands-on field safety supervision with corporate HSE coordination: supporting operational crews and fleet assets, ensuring compliance with legislative, customer, and WCB requirements, conducting and communicating incident investigations, and contributing to safety program development under the direction of the HSE Manager.
The HSE Coordinator will deliver training, perform inspections and audits, lead incident/near‑miss investigations, manage WCB reporting and claims liaison, maintain safety statistics and records (eg. TRIF), and provide regular safety communications to operations, clients and leadership.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide visible, positive HSE leadership and coaching to field personnel, supervisors and office staff; act as a primary field safety presence.
- Supervise, mentor and deliver on‑site safety training and competency assessments for field staff.
- Organize and monitor day‑to‑day field tasks to ensure safety and operational efficiency; communicate changes in work scope and customer requirements.
- Conduct and participate in monthly safety meetings, safety committee meetings, and weekly company/onboard meetings; review recent incidents and ensure corrective actions are communicated and implemented.
- Lead investigations into near misses, incidents and accidents; determine root causes, develop corrective action plans and follow up to prevent recurrence.
- Act as main point of contact for WCB reporting, investigations and claims; maintain relationships with case managers and support return‑to‑work planning.
- Conduct formal and informal worksite inspections, fleet and vehicle compliance checks, and monthly inspections of fire and first‑aid equipment at multiple locations.
- Support fleet administration standards and vehicle operating policy enforcement; liaise with operations and clients on vehicle, transport and TDG matters.
- Assist in creation, review and monitoring of Safe Work Practices, Hazard Assessments, Standard Operating Procedures and other HSE documentation.
- Maintain and update the Learning Management System (LMS); track training completion and address gaps.
- Collect, maintain and contribute to HSE statistics and reports (eg. TRIF) for management and audits.
- Support the HSE Manager in implementing new policies, programs and continuous improvement projects to ensure consistency across locations.
- Participate in employee evaluations and work with HR on discipline, transfers or reassignment recommendations where safety performance is a factor.
- Respond professionally and promptly to operational inquiries, client safety changes and employee complaints.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Formal training in the following: incident management, OH&S, safety program development, WCB, and TDG as asset.
- Class 1 or 3 license an asset.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding an NCSO and OHS diploma/or CRSP Certification
- Background in transportation and logistics and Class 1 license an asset.
- Valid safety certificates: Standard First Aid, H2S, CSO, Hours of Service, Log Auditing etc.

- Demonstrated ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
- Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with direct reports and all levels of the organization.

- Oil Field Industry knowledge, as well as tank truck & fluid hauling experience & knowledge with proven success in field-level job tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires travel to other branch locations as well as project sites that require the use of personal protective equipment such as steel-toed boots, coveralls, safety glasses, hard hats, and mandatory hearing protection.
- Able to occasionally lift items as heavy as 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
- Sitting or standing as needed, as well as walking primarily on a level surface for periods throughout the day.
- Reaching above shoulder heights or below the waist as well as some lifting as required.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
- This is a full-time salaried position with 10 days on 4 days off schedule
- 12 hour days when on schedule
- On-call responsibilities will be required as needed on a 24-hour per day basis, in accordance with the scheduled rotational schedule.
- Field presence is required in home location or at other assigned facilities. At least once per month travel to each business location as applicable or assigned.
- Office to field presents will be roughly 60/40.
