About the Role
BMI Group is looking for an HSSE Coordinator to help drive environmental performance and support health and safety initiatives across our growing portfolio of industrial and redevelopment sites.
This is a newly created position, reflecting continued growth and the need for dedicated coordination to support increasingly active environmental and site operations.
Based in Thorold, Ontario, and reporting to the Environmental Manager, the role is heavily focused on environmental coordination (80%), with a complementary focus on health and safety. From permitting and compliance tracking to field monitoring and contractor coordination, you’ll be directly involved in the day-to-day execution of environmental programs, ensuring sites are managed responsibly and projects move forward smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
Environmental (80%)
- Support environmental compliance programs across BMI sites and projects using the site-specific Compliance Calendar
- Assist with permits, approvals, renewals, and regulatory submissions
- Maintain environmental compliance trackers, action logs, and site records
- Coordinate environmental monitoring activities, inspections, and reporting
- Support work related to brownfields, redevelopment, closure, and post-closure planning
- Coordinate consultants and contractors performing environmental field work
- Assist with environmental incident response, documentation, and follow-up
- Support communication with regulators, municipalities, utilities, and other stakeholders
- Organize environmental data, photos, maps, sampling records, and technical files
Health & Safety (20%)
- Support the implementation of health and safety procedures and documentation
- Participate in site inspections, hazard identification, and corrective action tracking
- Assist with contractor onboarding and safety documentation review
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and close-out actions
- Help maintain training records, forms, and HSSE files
- Contribute to emergency preparedness and response coordination
Qualifications
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in environmental science, environmental technology, engineering technology, or a related field
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in environmental coordination, compliance, industrial operations, construction, consulting, or related sectors
- Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements and field monitoring programs
- Experience working within multiple provincial regulatory frameworks is an asset
- Working knowledge of occupational health and safety practices
- Experience with brownfield, waste management, remediation, or redevelopment projects is an asset
- Strong written communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; GIS or compliance tracking systems are an asset
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to national and international (USA) BMI Project Sites as required
