Health & Safety Specialist (Utility) – Hybrid | Southern Ontario
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to lead and evolve our safety programs across utility construction and electrical infrastructure projects throughout Southern Ontario.
This is a high-impact role combining field safety leadership, regulatory compliance, incident management, and safety program development within a growing utility contractor. It is ideal for a safety professional who thrives in both field and strategic environments and is ready to take ownership of a mature and evolving occupational health and safety program.

Hyline is a diversified electrical utility contractor providing overhead and underground powerline construction, maintenance, and rebuild services across Southern Ontario.
We work with major utilities on projects including system rebuilds, road widening, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance. Our reputation is built on safety, quality workmanship, training, and service.
Established in 2015, Hyline achieved ISO 45001 (Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) certification in 2025.
This role will play a key part in shaping the safety direction of a growing company with strong leadership support and continued investment in safety systems. As the company grows, this position offers advancement into a senior health and safety leadership role.
Compensation & Benefits
- $75,000 – $106,000 includes vacation (hourly equivalent: $37.50–$53)
- 10% employer RRSP contribution + 5% employee match

Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Lead and support compliance with OHSA, regulations, and company safety standards
- Collaborate with management, supervisors, and field crews to establish and achieve safety goals
- Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates
- Act as primary contact for ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 audits and compliance
- Maintain and improve safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Support and ensure effectiveness of the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Manage subcontractor safety compliance programs
- Oversee and improve fleet safety protocols
Field Safety & Incident Management
- Conduct regular field visits across active projects
- Lead incident investigations (accidents, near misses, root cause analysis)
- Track, trend, and report on safety performance metrics
- Provide real-time coaching and safety support to crews and supervisors
- Act as safety liaison during projects and emergency/storm response operations
Training & Safety Program Development
- Manage and maintain the training matrix and certification tracking
- Coordinate and deliver health & safety training programs
- Support and administer the Red Seal apprenticeship program
- Develop and lead new employee safety orientation programs
- Identify training gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Culture & Employee Engagement
- Promote a strong, proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization
- Lead safety meetings, and safety engagement initiatives
- Support employee engagement and workplace culture initiatives
- Collaborate and lead on internal communications (safety updates, newsletters)
- Support and maintain company social media initiatives related to safety and culture
- Participate in industry events and conferences (e.g., AEUSP)
Work Schedule & Hybrid Structure
- Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday
- 2 days/week in the field
- 2 days/week remote/home office
- Fridays in-office (Strathroy or Ayr, ON)
- Occasional travel (~1 overnight/month)
Note: Fieldwork includes exposure to construction environments and varying weather conditions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management, or related field
- CRSP/CRST designation an asset
- Strong knowledge of OHSA and construction/utility safety practices
- Experience in construction, utilities, electrical, or infrastructure projects preferred
- Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 or COR considered an asset
- Proven ability to influence and engage field crews and supervisors
- Strong communication, presentation and leadership skills
- Valid G Drivers licence
