What You’ll Do
-
Implements specified projects and initiatives as assigned.
-
Follows daily work plans for stewardship project implementation.
-
Participates in the implementation of stewardship activities including, but not limited to invasive species management, shoreline restoration, tree planting, species at risk habitat management.
-
Collaborates with other staff and departments to minimize impacts to NPC operations.
-
Participates in trail management and inspections.
-
Installs habitat and nesting structures.
-
Attends and participates in management meetings, as requested.
-
Assists with and participates in tree seed collection and training workshops.
-
Participates in project monitoring and implements mitigation strategies for deficiencies.
-
Participates in the delivery of educational programming, communications, and demonstrations (i.e. general public, school groups, and professionals) as required.

Participates in flora and fauna inventories for assigned areas.
-
Assesses health of natural areas using approved methodology.
-
Utilizes GIS to map tree species, habitat types, and project areas.
-
Assists with the implementation of NPC’s Shoreline Dock Licence program.
What You’ll Bring
-
Currently enrolled in a University or College program in the field of ecology, biology, horticulture or environmental science.
-
Ability to obtain a Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
-
One-year previous experience in stewardship project implementation an asset.
-
Effective oral and written communication skills include effective presentation skills, good organizational and planning skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Knowledge of flora and fauna identification is an asset.
-
Ability to use and learn the operation of related tools and equipment to complete work tasks to comply with Health and Safety standards.

Must demonstrate ability to provide strong organizational and planning skills, professionalism and ability to act with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Knowledgeable of Occupational Health and Safety policies/procedures.
-
Have a valid class G drivers license in good standing
-
Must be able to work in all weather conditions ( wet, hot, etc.)
-
Must be able to safely access and maneuver in rigorous nature trail and non-trail environments.
