The Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB) is hiring two Agricultural Permitting Officers (Approval Officers) in Red Deer, Alberta.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a legislated decision-making role under Alberta’s Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA) – where your work directly supports responsible agricultural development, environmental protection, and municipal planning requirements across the province.

Working both independently and with a team of professionals across Alberta, you will review applications for confined feeding operations involving environmental assessment, regulatory compliance, and land-use planning considerations.

What You’ll Do

Lead the review and decision-making process for applications under AOPA
Ensure applications meet the requirements of applicable legislation, regulations, and NRCB policies
Evaluate technical and environmental information related to confined feeding operations
Collaborate with municipalities, provincial ministries, and stakeholders to support a coordinated review process
Engage with livestock producers and industry representatives
Exercise professional judgment in issuing permit decisions under AOPA

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, agriculture, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in a regulatory, environmental, or related field
Strong understanding of regulatory processes and legislative interpretation
Knowledge of agriculture and environmental risks related to the livestock industry
Excellent analytical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
