Environment Technician (Water)

Introduction
Our client is seeking an Environment Monitor to provide field-based environmental monitoring and data support for the Stockpile Pond / TSS Control Improvement Project. This role is focused on water sampling, in-situ monitoring, turbidity and TSS tracking, and maintaining accurate, timely environmental data and reporting.
This position plays a key role in supporting environmental compliance, tracking field performance, and demonstrating measurable improvements related to TSS mitigation activities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field-based environmental monitoring to support Stockpile Pond TSS/turbidity tracking before and after mitigation activities
- Track and document turbidity and TSS trends to support evaluation of improvement effectiveness
- Support execution of the TSS Control Improvement Project, including progress tracking, weekly updates, and timeline reporting
- Perform routine in-situ water monitoring across basins, U-ditches, ponds, and monitoring points
- Measure and record environmental parameters including temperature, TRC, pH, turbidity, TSS, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen
- Monitor and document field conditions such as sheen, algae presence, discharge status, basin levels, and freeboard
- Identify and report abnormal conditions including elevated turbidity, chlorine, pH excursions, and drainage or flow issues
- Complete accurate, high-volume data entry into spreadsheets and tracking systems
- Prepare clear daily and weekly summaries for the environmental team
- Coordinate with field teams on construction and maintenance activities, providing feedback on environmental controls
- Support development and updates of environmental procedures related to monitoring and effluent management
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field (asset)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) (required)
- Experience with environmental monitoring, water sampling, or field data collection preferred
- Proficiency in Excel and data entry with strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, TRC, TSS, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen (asset)
- Experience using field monitoring equipment and handheld meters (asset)
- Ability to work independently and in outdoor industrial environments in varying conditions
- Strong written communication skills for clear and concise reporting
- Willingness to comply with site safety requirements and complete required training
