EHS is a full-service firm built around professionals and leaders in the field of environmental and occupational health and safety. We are guided by Partners who have been providing OH&S consulting services throughout North America since 1986. We help clients keep their employees safe by assessing worksites for asbestos, mold, lead, and a myriad of other hazardous materials. We provide advice on how best to control these materials, including assisting them with managing the safe removal and disposal. We help develop and improve their health and safety programs through technical testing, monitoring, auditing, and training. Our clients include all commodities from oil and gas, real estate and facility management, manufacturing of all types, light and heavy construction, transport, education, and service sectors.
As we continue to expand our field safety services, EHS Partnerships is looking for casual contract Safety Advisors to support upcoming and future client projects within Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta, and Western Canada. These opportunities range from short-term assignments and shutdowns to long-term project placements, depending on client requirements and project availability.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Group Manager, the Safety Advisor will provide onsite health and safety leadership while supporting our clients in maintaining safe, compliant, and productive worksites. Successful candidates will work closely with client leadership, contractors, and project teams to promote proactive safety practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide practical guidance in dynamic field environments.
These are independent contract opportunities. Assignments may vary by client and project scope and may include construction, maintenance, commissioning, turnarounds, shutdowns, industrial operations, and energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and safety observations to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation, workers’ compensation requirements, client standards, and industry best practices.
- Support client Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs on assigned projects.
- Provide practical safety coaching and guidance to project leaders, supervisors, contractors, and workers.
- Lead or support workplace incident and near-miss investigations, perform root-cause analysis, and develop corrective actions.
- Deliver HSE orientations and targeted safety training for new hires, employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Source, coordinate, document, and track employee training activities using internal databases.
- Develop, review, and update safety policies, procedures, work instructions, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), and site-specific safety plans.
- Support contractor mobilization by verifying orientations, certifications, competency requirements, and health and safety plans.
- Monitor safety performance, prepare reports, and communicate findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, project planning sessions, and health and safety committee meetings, as required.
- Maintain a visible field presence, engage with project teams, identify hazards, and promote safe work practices.
- Perform other health and safety duties as required to support client and project needs.
Required Skills and Experience
We are seeking professionals with:
- Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant health and safety experience. Opportunities may be available at junior, intermediate, and senior levels, with the required years of experience and qualifications dependent on client needs, project requirements, and assignment complexity.
- NCSO and/or CRSP designation, as required by the client and assignment.
- A Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety considered an asset
- Incident Investigation considered an asset.
- Experience in construction, oil and gas, industrial operations, energy, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, compliance audits, and incident investigations.
- Experience with contractor management and safety management systems.
- Strong communication, coaching, relationship-building, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety or training-management databases.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation; access to a truck may be preferred for certain field assignments.
Work Environment and Expectations
- Primarily field-based roles, with some administrative responsibilities depending on assignment.
- Work locations in Calgary, Edmonton, across Alberta and Western Canada.
- Rotations and hours vary based on client requirements.
