The Role
CanREA’s Corporate Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, developing and delivering high-quality communications that strengthen CanREA’s reputation, support member engagement and advance the organization’s strategic priorities. The role spans corporate communications, social media, email communications, translation support and digital communications. The role requires strong organizational, writing and coordination skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, external service providers and a broad network of stakeholders to deliver on business priorities.

- Delivering corporate communications that ensure a strong public presence for CanREA.
- Producing and maintaining consistent, high-quality corporate communications materials.
- Planning, developing and posting social media content that increases engagement for CanREA across current and new channels.
- Assisting with communications initiatives that strengthen member engagement and brand awareness.
- Supporting CanREA’s e-newsletters, website content management and digital communications activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Corporate Communications
- Developing and maintaining corporate communications materials that support CanREA staff and strengthen brand awareness with external audiences.
- Drafting, editing and translating corporate communications for internal and external audiences.
- Delivering communications that support member engagement initiatives, events and organizational announcements.
- Managing production schedules for corporate communications projects.
- Coordinating workflows with external communications contractors and service providers as needed.
Social Media Communications
- Scheduling and publishing content across CanREA’s social media channels.
- Developing and maintaining social media content plans and calendars.
- Monitoring engagement metrics and preparing performance reports.
- Supporting promotion of CanREA events, announcements, publications and industry activities through social media channels.
- Developing or coordinating visual and multimedia content for CanREA’s social media channels.
- Maintaining and adhering to CanREA brand standards across all social media materials.
- Supporting development of CanREA’s podcast and other multimedia communications initiatives.
Email Communications
- Drafting and editing e-newsletter content and other email communications in collaboration with the broader CanREA team while implementing best practices to support communications performance objectives.
- Supporting the planning, coordination, production and evaluation of CanREA’s e-newsletters and other email communications, in accordance with the organization’s overall communications plans.
Digital Communications
- Developing, maintaining and optimizing website content in support of CanREA’s communications objectives.
- Supporting website enhancements, functionality and issue resolution in collaboration with the Communications team and external web development partners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Functional Competencies
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English and French, with the ability to write and edit communications for Quebec audiences.
- Ability to learn and work with new and evolving technology.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve productivity, summarize information and draft content while applying sound editorial judgment and maintaining CanREA’s quality standards.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and plain language best practices.
- Experience producing multimedia content, including video, podcasts and graphics is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across the organization.
Technical and Working Requirements
- Strong knowledge of software applications including MailChimp, WordPress, Google Analytics, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and information management systems.
- Ability to travel 3–6 days a year, mainly across Canada.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote capacity.
Education
- University degree or college diploma in communications, journalism, literature, marketing or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in a communications role at a non-profit organization, association or equivalent. Experience working in the energy or environment sector is considered an asset.
- Background in corporate communications, especially writing and editing.
- Experience managing social media in a professional setting, with the proven ability to grow engagement with target audiences, is considered an asset.
- Experience creating e-newsletters and ability to suggest smart strategies for increasing open rates and click rates while decreasing bounce rates and unsubscribe rates.
- Background in translating Canadian French and English content.
- Experience supporting website functionality and maintenance.
- Experience with video production and editing is considered an asset.
