Acden Aves is an environmental services company providing bird and wildlife deterrent services at various oil sands mines using the latest in avian detection and deterrent technology. We are a partnership with Acden - one of Canada's largest Indigenous-owned companies.
We are seeking Avian Monitors to join our team at Suncor, Base Plant.
The Avian Response Team performs searches for waterfowl and wildlife around the tailings ponds on site. They use a mixture of boat operation and walking searches and GPS data to map and track search efforts. This team responds to notifications of landed birds and are first responders, using pyrotechnics and watercraft to scare landed waterfowl from the pond surface.
Our ideal candidates have:
· A diploma in biology, animal/veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, or another related field;
· A valid class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
Avian Response Technicians must have experience or be comfortable:
· Handling birds and wildlife under stress and in various physical conditions;
· Working outdoors in all types of weather;
· Traveling in boats and being on the water;
· Working in the field in a heavy industrial (mine) environment;
Additional training in areas such as wildlife handling, banding and wildlife ID are considered an asset.
