We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Coordinator to join our team and play a critical role in overseeing and managing all environmental aspects of the Hammerdown Gold project near King’s Point, Newfoundland and Labrador. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on innovative mining initiatives, ensure full regulatory compliance, and actively support our company’s commitment to responsible operations and community engagement. The Hammerdown Project, an open pit gold mining operation, supplies run-of-mine feed to our Pine Cove Mill located approximately 100km away. This permanent, full-time position is primarily Monday to Friday at the Hammerdown Gold Project, offering a collaborative work environment and the prospect of personal and professional development.
As an Environmental Coordinator, you’ll be part of a dynamic team. Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Contribute to developing, implementing, and reviewing environmental management policies and plans in compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect and analyze environmental data, monitor key performance indicators, and present findings clearly.
· Assist in environmental monitoring activities, including the assessment of air and water quality, habitat evaluations, and the tracking of wildlife populations.
· Conduct sampling and testing of soil, air, and water to support regulatory compliance and ongoing site assessments.
· Support the preparation of environmental reports, permit applications, and compliance documentation.
· Coordinate and facilitate employee training sessions to enhance environmental awareness and ensure regulatory compliance.
· Participate in environmental audits and inspections, supporting the resolution of identified non-conformances.
· Act as the primary environmental department contact for coordination with site personnel and contractors.
· Provide guidance and support on environmental policies, legal obligations, commitments, standards, procedures, and applicable legislation.
· Assist with reporting of environmental incidents—including internal, regulatory, and community reporting—investigation of events, and implementation of corrective actions.
· Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in environmental performance and the advancement of sustainable mining operations.
· Maintain effective communication with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and local communities regarding environmental concerns.
· Accompany regulatory agency representatives during site visits and inspections; participate in pre- and post-inspection meetings.
· Stay current on emerging environmental trends and technologies to identify potential enhancements to site practices.
· Perform additional related duties as required.
What You Bring to the Field:
· Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field is required.
· Minimum of 5-10 years of related Environmental experience, preferably in the mining industry.
· Familiarity with federal and provincial environmental regulations and permitting processes.
· Experience in Metal & Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER)
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent organizational and communication skills.
· Manages personal workload to ensure completion of tasks within schedules.
· Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
· Competent with Microsoft Office and data-management software.
· A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a drivers abstract are required.
Working Conditions:
· Long periods of standing.
· Heavy lifting up to 50lbs.
· Walking and working on uneven terrain.
· Working in seasonal weather.
