Safety BOSS Inc. is recruiting for the position of Health and Safety Manager.
This integral member of the Management Team plays a pivotal strategic role in overseeing Corporate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives, along with some HR-related activities.
This position is full-time and will be based out of our Edmonton location. Work hours are Monday – Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), with occasional evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis. This role offers a comprehensive benefits package, RRSPs, vacation time and a competitive salary.
The primary focus of this position is to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control activities to achieve the established objectives of respective departments. The HSE Manager must be able to positively influence and uphold the standards of our safety culture.
Basic Function
The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring SBI's corporate compliance with relevant provincial and federal regulations. This includes overseeing adherence to legislative requirements and implementing measures to maintain compliance across all operations.
Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, client concerns, and employee feedback.
- Lead Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives to elevate SBI's operational standards above industry best practices.
- Engage with and inform the Executive and Management team regarding employee, client, and industry issues, trends, and regulatory changes.
Primary Responsibilities
Corporate:
- Ensure the Company vision, mission and values are effectively communicated and understood by employees and customers.
- Ensure corporate compliance with all local, provincial, and federal laws and regulations.
- Oversee corporate adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure the Department operates ethically and prudently.
- Coordinate training for all department employees on Company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and assist in the development and implementation of the HSE Policies and Procedures
- Act as a point of contact for client, employee, and Station Manager HSE-related requests and concerns.
- Serve as a technical resource for Station Managers regarding HSE matters.
- Represent the corporation and manage all HSE-related government inquiries.
- Coordinate and facilitate HSE-related client and government audits.
- Support the bid process with HSE-related requirements.
· Maintain Certificate of Recognition (COR) requirements.
- Manage WCB claims and oversee the Return to Work Program.
- Guide all responsible parties in the incident investigation process, serving as the initial corporate HSE contact 24/7 unless a designated alternate is identified.
- Will facilitate and lead the Workplace Harassment Incident Investigation Team (WHIIT)
- Organize and facilitate corporate HSE training initiatives as needed.

Team Management

Additional Responsibilities
- Provide feedback and strategic direction for company-wide HSE key performance indicators.
- Conduct regular in-person visits to field locations to collaborate with SBI teams on site, ensuring effective communication and support
- Communicate HSE issues effectively to senior management.
- Stay current on operational best practices, as well as local, provincial, and federal laws and regulations.
- Share best practices across stations to maintain consistent work standards.
- Enforce all Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely completion of performance evaluations for reporting personnel.
- Develop, enforce, and periodically review management controls and quality standards to uphold compliance with company policies.
- Administer and distribute HSE reports promptly as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Vice President.
- Update and maintain safety stats on ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, and 8am Solutions as necessary.
- Conduct monthly corporate safety meetings.
- Review provincial WCB Loss Control Reports for accuracy and status.
- Coordinate and oversee corporate emergency response drills (e.g., fatality, major motor vehicle incident, SBI worker medical emergency).
- Audit all stations for compliance with HSE standards.
- Provide corporate HSE overviews to Senior Management.
- Review and update Corporate and Divisional HSE Manuals as needed.
Working Conditions
- The employee is required to perform activities such as standing, walking, climbing, sitting, and using hands and fingers.
- Some light lifting of objects may be necessary.
- Activities such as reaching, grasping, and carrying are also required.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
- While most work is conducted indoors, occasional outdoor activities may be subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
- Some assignments may involve attendance at oil and gas (or other chemical and industrial) exploration and production facilities.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, facility and wellhead safety experience is considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of corporate Safety Management experience.
- NCSO, Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, CRSP Designation preferred
- Supplemental targeted education to meet position requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of upstream and downstream oil and gas regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with Industry Recommended Practices (IRPs) and Industry Best Practices (IBPs) related to corporate HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) functioning.
