Job Summary
Nor-Alta Environmental Services is currently seeking Environmental Scientists for both field and office (reporting) to join our team based out of Edmonton, Alberta. The successful applicants will be responsible for providing field services, and related report preparation, to our clients on a variety of reclamation, remediation, planning, environmental assessments, and drilling waste management projects.
Field Responsibilities
- Maintaining detailed and exceptional field notes.
- Collecting soil and groundwater samples.
- Completing soil and vegetation field identification.
- Collecting drilling waste samples.
- Conducting Wildlife sweeps and surveys.
- Completing field testing of soils and drilling waste.
- Completing fieldwork as assigned under the supervision of our Project Managers.
- Working efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Ensuring consistent and diligent representation of Nor-Alta in all communications with clients, landowners, and regulators.
- Willing to travel for field work year-round with the potential for extended trips.
- Willing and capable of daily manual labor.
- Conducting work tasks as requested by management in an efficient manner which adheres to all applicable industry standards, company policies and procedures, client health and safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting Responsibilities
- Preparing a range of environmental reports related to reclamation, remediation, environmental assessments, and drilling waste management (Phase I/Phase II, Stage I/Stage II, DSA, etc.).
- Compiling analytical data and input in to company templates.
- Preparing regulatory submissions, notifications, and forms.
- Completing revisions and corrections based on internal reviews and feedback.
- Inputting and maintaining data within company report templates and tracking systems.
- Working closely within field staff to ensure all necessary information is available and clarified as required.
- Ensuring all reports meet internal standards.
Qualifications
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree in sciences, environmental studies, or other applicable programs.
- A strong working knowledge of computers and relevant software (Microsoft Office).
- A strong working knowledge of industry standard technology (GPS, Digital Cameras, etc.).
- Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, well-organized documentation and identify inconsistencies or errors before submission.
- A Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations.
- Preference will be given to applicants with related post-secondary education and eligibility with a professional institution or association (ie. AIA, ASPB, APEGA, etc.).
