Reporting Relationships
The Environmental Coordinator reports to the Managing Director, Environment and Community Consultation, and has no direct reports.
Accountabilities and Key Functions
This position supports environmental permitting and compliance for projects across Canada and the United States, reporting to the Managing Director of Environment and Community Consultation and working closely with Development & Origination, Construction & Engineering, Finance, and Operations teams. The role assists with regulatory submissions, document preparation, data tracking, and stakeholder engagement under the guidance of senior team members, building toward greater independence over time.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the review of documents (e.g., environmental assessments and permit applications) prepared by consultants, checking for completeness and consistency.
- Draft environmental reports for internal use and for regulatory agencies (e.g., Environmental Protection Plans, audit reports) under senior guidance.
- Collect, organize, and track data needed to meet environmental permit, approval, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in site inspections to help verify compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and commitments.
- Support communications with regulatory agencies regarding permitting, reporting, and routine compliance matters.
- Assist senior staff with environmental due diligence and the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain trackers, consultation logs, filing systems, and permit/reporting calendars.
- Support the Project Management Office and Project Managers with scheduling, permitting updates, and document control.
- Coordinate logistics for public meetings and open houses, prepare materials and provide on-site support during events.
- Additional responsibilities will be assigned by the Managing Director of Environment and Community Consultation, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- 0–3 years of experience in environmental permitting, compliance, or a related field; internship or co-op experience in energy development, government, or consulting is an asset.
- Foundational understanding of environmental policy, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements, with eagerness to learn requirements across new jurisdictions.
- Awareness of environmental benefits, impacts and mitigation strategies for wind, solar, and battery storage (BESS) projects.
- Ability to work respectfully with diverse audiences including colleagues, consultants, contractors, regulators, Indigenous communities, and the public.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational and analytical skills, and willingness to take direction and ask questions.
- Ability to learn quickly and self-manage time and tasks across multiple projects.
- Strong attention to detail, and excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Outlook; familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., Copilot or Cowork) is an asset.
- Able to travel up to 20% of the time.
COMPENSATION
- Base salary range: $65,000 – $75,000 CAD.
- Target annual bonus: 10% target bonus.
- Compensation will vary depending on experience and qualifications.
