Role Description: Reporting to the Chief Economist & Vice President, Research, the Economic Analyst supports Restaurants Canada's research and advocacy objectives through economic analysis, data collection, policy evaluation, and reporting. The successful candidate will help generate evidence-based insights that inform government relations efforts, support industry advocacy, and provide valuable intelligence to members and stakeholders.
This role requires strong quantitative and analytical skills, experience conducting economic and policy research, and the ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences, including government officials, industry leaders, media, and association members.
Key Accountabilities:
Economic Research and Analysis
- Conduct economic analysis, statistical modelling, and industry trend analysis to support Restaurants Canada's research agenda.
- Analyze the impact of federal, provincial, and municipal government policies on Canada's foodservice industry, including taxation, labour, food policy, sustainability, and other policy and regulatory issues.
- Develop economic forecasts and policy impact assessments to support advocacy initiatives and strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and analyze government budgets, policy announcements, legislation, and economic developments affecting the industry.
Policy Research and Advocacy Support
- Collaborate closely with the Government Relations team to provide research support for policy development , direct advocacy and associated campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of presentations, briefing notes, reports, and submissions for parliamentary committees, government departments, and other policymakers.
- Support evidence-based advocacy by identifying and communicating the economic implications of proposed government policies and regulations.
Survey Research and Data Management
- Support the design, implementation, and analysis of surveys to collect industry data aligned with the association's policy and research priorities.
- Analyze survey and industry datasets using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques.
- Utilize advanced Excel and statistical software such as R to manage, analyze, and interpret data.
- Review research outputs, identify discrepancies, and ensure data quality and accuracy.
Reporting and Knowledge Sharing
- Prepare and update research reports, economic analyses, briefing materials, and articles for industry publications, government submissions, and member communications.
- Present research findings and economic insights to government officials, association members, media representatives, and conference audiences.
- Translate complex economic and policy concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.

Qualifications
- Degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Minimum three to five years’ experience in a research environment (research methodology, economic analysis, statistical analysis), including practical experience in writing research reports and giving presentations.
- Experience conducting economic research, statistical analysis, and forecasting.
- Understanding of public policy issues related to taxation, labour markets, food systems, sustainability, and economic development.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience using R or similar statistical software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
- Experience interacting with government stakeholders and policymakers is considered a strong asset.
- Media experience, including explaining research findings to external audiences, is considered an asset.
Hybrid Environment: This position requires a minimum of three days per week in-office. The current standard is in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, though flexibility will be required based on need. Restaurant Canada’s hybrid work environment is subject to regular reviews and could change.
Salary range: $ 82,644 – $ 103,305 per year (CAD), based on experience and qualifications.
