Position Overview
The Institute of Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic) at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF)to join our dynamic and interdisciplinary research team. The successful candidate will help direct innovative research at the intersection of carbon capture and energy systems, helping advance both theoretical and applied aspects.
Reporting to the Director, the PDF will use their knowledge and skills to enhance the IESVic mission. The Fellow will support initiatives of strategic importance through development, facilitation and execution of research activities. The Fellow will use their knowledge of energy system decarbonization, electrification, alternative fuels, policy, energy conversion, carbon capture, and behaviour to accelerate the transition of the Canadian economy to a more sustainable future. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research aligned with IESVic’s focus on sustainable energy systems that are reliable, cost-effective and socially acceptable
- Develop and conduct a research project on atmospheric or oceanic carbon capture, either directly, or factors that will enable carbon capture more efficiently
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences
- Contribute to grant writing and preparation of research proposals
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external partners
- Support IESVic Director to increase research activities and associated impact
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in relevant field to energy systems, carbon capture and sustainability (Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Social Sciences, etc.). Needs to be completed to be eligible
- Strong record of scholarly publications or demonstrated research potential
- Expertise in transdisciplinary research,numerical modelling, and carbon capture techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team
- Evidence of the desire, willingness, and ability to collaborate broadly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with carbon capture, sequestration or related activities
- Demonstrated success in securing research funding or fellowships
- Experience mentoring undergraduate or junior graduate students.
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Familiarity with energy systems and renewable energy technologies.
