About The Role
The Marine Environmental Response Officer provides support on marine environmental emergency preparedness and response activities on Haida Gwaii, including the development and implementation of oil spill response plans in the event of an incident.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct field surveys to develop response plans and tactics for shoreline protection and clean-up from oil spills.
- Field test response plans and tactics.
- Provide support in the Incident Command Post and on-site during marine environmental incident response, including deploying spill response tactics, conducting site assessments, collecting field data, and preparing field reports.
- Participate in workshops, conferences and training related to marine incident preparedness, response and recovery from oil spills and other hazardous substances.
- Participate in training and exercises to effectively deploy response equipment and clean-up techniques during an incident as part of a response team.
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of marine waters around Haida Gwaii will be an asset, as well as knowledge of Haida governance
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Valid BC driver’s license
- Boating license and experience is an asset
