Position Overview
Eliassen Group is expanding its ESG & Sustainability advisory practice and have an open role for a manager. This is a practice-building leadership role, not a single-project seat, for a sustainability specialist who pairs deep technical and regulatory expertise with a technology-enabled approach to reporting. You will work at the intersection of sustainability, accounting, and transformation, helping organizations turn a fast-moving disclosure landscape into reporting they can produce accurately, defend confidently, and scale.
The mandate is expanding on every front. In the EU, the CSRD and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) are redefining what credible reporting looks like; globally, the ISSB's IFRS S1 and S2 are becoming the investor-focused baseline; and in Canada, the CSSB's disclosure standards (CSDS 1 & 2), OSFI B-15 for federally regulated financial institutions, and Bill S-211 are moving sustainability data into the same rigor, controls, and assurance expectations as financial reporting. Companies need advisors who understand both the frameworks and the systems that operationalize them.
As a manager and practice leader, you will own delivery excellence on ESG and sustainability engagements, serve as a trusted advisor to sustainability, finance, and controllership leaders up through the C-suite, and help grow the practice across the Canadian market. You will work closely with our Workiva, financial reporting, GRC, and data teams to deliver integrated, technology-enabled solutions — positioning our clients, and your own career, for long-term success.
Responsibilities
- Lead ESG and sustainability reporting engagements end to end — scoping, planning, execution, review, and client delivery — as the day-to-day engagement lead.
- Guide clients through double materiality assessments, CSRD/ESRS readiness, and ISSB (IFRS S1/S2) adoption, and run gap assessments against evolving Canadian, U.S., and global disclosure requirements.
- Build and validate greenhouse gas inventories across Scope 1, 2, and 3, and advise on carbon accounting, target setting (e.g., SBTi), and climate transition planning.
- Design and implement technology-enabled sustainability reporting on the Workiva platform and adjacent carbon-management and ESG data tools — establishing data lineage, controls, and repeatable workflows.
- Develop framework crosswalks and disclosure mappings across ESRS, ISSB, GRI, SASB, TCFD, and the EU Taxonomy, aligned to Canadian regimes (CSSB/CSDS, OSFI B-15, Bill S-211) and North American mandates (e.g., California SB 253/261).
- Prepare clients for limited and reasonable assurance — strengthening documentation, data quality, and controls so sustainability information stands up to third-party review.
- Translate complex, shifting regulation into practical, decision-ready guidance for both technical and executive audiences.
- Manage engagement scope, timelines, budgets, and quality, ensuring high-caliber deliverables in a dynamic consulting environment.
- Build repeatable methodologies, templates, and intellectual property that scale the practice and raise delivery quality.
- Mentor and develop team members, and act as a technical resource across sustainability practice.
- Drive practice growth in Canada — supporting business development, scoping, proposals, client relationships, and thought leadership — measured on origination and practice growth rather than a single utilization line.
- Partner with Workiva and with Eliassen's financial reporting, GRC, and data management teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master's (e.g., Environmental Studies) is a plus.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainability/ESG reporting or advisory — in professional services, consulting, or a corporate sustainability function.
- Hands-on experience leading or delivering an ESG/CSRD reporting program, ideally in a multi-jurisdictional or multi-entity environment.
- Deep working knowledge of ESRS/CSRD, ISSB (IFRS S1/S2), TCFD, GRI, and the GHG Protocol; familiarity with Canadian regimes (CSSB/CSDS 1 & 2, OSFI B-15, Bill S-211) and North American mandates (California SB 253/261) strongly preferred.
- Experience with sustainability/ESG reporting technology — Workiva strongly preferred; familiarity with carbon-management or ESG data platforms is a plus.
- Relevant credentials are a plus.
- Strong data skills — comfort with large data sets, data validation and lineage, and advanced Excel; interest in automation and analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and brief the C-suite.
- A practice-builder's mindset — proactive, entrepreneurial, and comfortable creating structure where none yet exists.
- Authorized to work in Canada and the Toronto area, preferred.
