Position Overview
A leading real estate developer is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to support active construction and development projects throughout the Ottawa and Greater Toronto Area.
The successful candidate will promote a strong safety culture, conduct site inspections, ensure compliance with Ontario health and safety regulations, and work closely with project managers, site supervisors, contractors, and trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections across construction sites
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable construction regulations
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs and procedures
- Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and workplace concerns
- Prepare inspection reports, incident documentation, and corrective-action plans
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with company safety standards
- Maintain safety records, certifications, and training documentation
- Support emergency-response planning and return-to-work programs
- Work with project teams to continuously improve health and safety performance
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
- Strong knowledge of Ontario construction safety legislation and regulations
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and ability to travel between project sites
- Strong communication, training, investigation, and reporting skills
- Comfortable working independently in active construction environments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety-management software
