About the Role:
As a member of Madrone’s Agrology practice, you will play a key role in supporting and expanding our work across the Lower Mainland and throughout British Columbia. Based in the Lower Mainland and working in a fully remote capacity, you will contribute to both field and office-based projects, providing permitting and regulatory support, conducting environmental and biological assessments, and supporting multidisciplinary project delivery.
This role requires a high level of independence, professionalism, and collaboration within a distributed team environment. You will help strengthen our Lower Mainland presence while contributing to agrology projects across the province.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in soil science, earth sciences, agriculture or equivalent.
- Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) with 3-7 years experience practicing as a P.Ag.
General Expertise and Passion:
- Passion for teamwork, mentorship and the transfer of knowledge to future professionals.
- Maintain physical fitness as the role involves fieldwork in diverse environments.
Technical Expertise and Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) and their associated Acts and Regulations.
- Familiar with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations relevant to the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and/or agricultural zoned lands.
- Demonstrates proficiency in soil horizon classification in a field setting.
- Practical experience utilizing soil-related field equipment and analyzing laboratory data.
Specialized Experience:
- Experience in completing Agricultural Land Capability (LCA) Assessments, Soil and Fill Importation Plans, and conducting site monitoring visits on agricultural lands.
- Experience with Soil Reclamation, Erosion and Sediment Control Plans and Drainage Management an asset.
- Familiarity with irrigation management and calculating crop demand is useful.
- Knowledge of the provincial groundwater licensing process and understanding of the application procedures considered beneficial.
Professional Skills and Contributions:
- Excels with technical writing and have developed Qualified Professional reports.
- Experience writing project proposals (Letters of Engagement, Request for Proposals/Quotes) and developing budgets.
- Experience providing Qualified Professional opinions at municipal or provincial committees or councils is considered beneficial.
Collaboration and Industry Relationships:
- Experience working with agricultural producers in BC considered beneficial.
Compensation & Additional Perks:
- Wage: $80,400 to $98,400.
