We are seeking a senior level professional to grow and lead our permitting team. He/she will be responsible for overseeing projects related to permitting and licensing compliance (air, water, and waste). In general, this individual will work to ensure all current or proposed project-relevant operations at client facilities meet local, provincial and federal laws.
The successful candidate may be eligible for participation in a hybrid, work-from-home arrangement. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.
Requirements:
- Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or Engineering
- Registration with EGBC or relevant professional association within BC (R.P.Bio, P.Eng, P.Ag, or P.Geo designations)
- 8 years of working experience within Canada
- 5 years experience working in environmental or related permitting within British Columbia
- Valid, full, driver’s license in Canada with a clean driver’s abstract and personal vehicle (non-negotiable)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency or a valid work permit
Primary accountabilities:
- Independence: Steer projects from conception to completion with minimal oversight.
- Leadership and Management: Provide clear direction and set expectations for staff, assign projects, conduct performance appraisals, and manage team training and safety.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for government agencies, such as the BC Ministry of Environment and Parks (BCMOE), municipalities and regional districts,, Indigenous nations, and stakeholders.
- Permit Strategy & Application: Develop and implement permitting strategies for WeaverTech’s projects, prepare and submit comprehensive permit applications (e.g., wastewater treatment, solid waste management, air emissions), and ensure all applications meet regulatory requirements.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure projects adhere to federal, provincial, or municipal reporting requirements, such as Environmental Assessment Certificates or individual reporting requirements as determined by the BCMOE Director.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple team-based projects and timelines, as well as develop and work within budgets.
Additional Required Knowledge and skills:
· Deep understanding of provincial environmental legislation (e.g., Contaminated Sites Regulation, Environmental Assessment Act, Organic Matter and Recycling Regulation) as well as relevant municipal legal landscapes (e.g., environmental, developmental, agricultural).
· Strong written and verbal skills for negotiating with clients and external agencies and presenting technical materials to councils or stakeholders.
· Experience with CAD, GIS, and reporting software for managing data, site inspections, and engineering/environmental studies.
- Clear understanding of Indigenous environmental values and reoccurring concerns.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within timelines and budgets.
· Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Be a skilled multi-tasker and critical thinker.
- A network of strong contacts within industry and regulatory agencies would be an asset
