About You & Role overview:
The Crump Group is seeking a Sustainability Manager to drive sustainability initiatives across our value chain, with a strong emphasis on developing new customer-facing programs, retailer partnership, and community engagement programs.
Our mission is to challenge and evolve how we think about pet and planet wellbeing. You will define and translate high-level sustainability commitments into actionable programs, KPIs, and operational changes, working closely with manufacturing, procurement, marketing, and packaging teams to deliver smooth operational execution with resounding external impact.
Core Competencies:
- Sustainability Program Execution & ESG Reporting -Ability to translate sustainability commitments into measurable programs, KPIs, and annual reporting (including SBTs and ESG metrics), with a strong focus on execution and impact.
- Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration- Proven ability to work across internal teams (marketing, R&D, procurement, manufacturing) and build partnerships with external stakeholders such as retailers, suppliers, and community organizations.
- Strategic Communication & Sustainability Advocacy- Skill in translating complex sustainability concepts into clear, engaging messaging for diverse audiences, including customers, internal teams, and public platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define quantifiable sustainability commitments and measure progress in SBT’s and financial impact, published in an annual sustainability report
- Work with the Creative and Communications team to develop sustainability messaging for use across our brand website, social media campaigns, external thought leadership pieces, and internal associate engagement
- Lead our cross-functional North American ‘Green Team’ to execute an ambitious sustainability agenda
- Collaborate on joint initiatives with sustainability teams at our key retail customers
- Work with Marketing and R&D to build environmentally-preferred ingredients into our innovation pipeline
- Find and develop new community engagement programs and partnerships to support local sustainability efforts
- Work with procurement to continue evolving our responsible sourcing & supplier screening frameworks
- Optimize manufacturing & supply chain to improve both environmental impact and profitability
- Support customer sustainability scorecards, audits, and data requests
Recipe For Success:
- 5–8 years of experience in sustainability or ESG roles within CPG consumables, food, or retail
- Strong project management skills and a proven ability to execute programs—not just develop strategy
- Experience connecting metrics to action with ESG measures & reporting
- Ability to build strong relationships with external stakeholders, with demonstrated experience working with retailers, customers, and community groups on joint sustainability initiatives
- Strong communication skills to translate technical concepts into clear language
Extra Ingredients:
- Familiarity with SBTi or other global sustainability frameworks
- Experience with ESG reporting tools or carbon tracking systems
- Change management and influencing skills
- Brand storytelling or sustainability communications experience
- Knowledge of environmental regulations in CPG, food, or retail
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Passion for sustainability and purpose-driven work
- Experience working in mid-to-large organizations with complex supply chains
