Overview
We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Natural Resource Management team. Our team specializes in protecting and enhancing the natural resources that sustain our communities, focusing on sustainable land use, aquatic and terrestrial habitat conservation, and environmental compliance.
This is a new position and is based at any of our offices across Canada. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities
Business Development
- Build client relationships through identifying market opportunities, client communications, preparation of proposals, and business development activities
- Identify and pursue business opportunities within the marketplace, where Dillon might succeed in securing work assignments
- Contribute to proposals (budget development and proposal writing)
- Collaborate with staff across Canada for the purposes of project delivery, client relationship development, and opportunity/project research
Project Management & Design
- Scope, plan, develop, and implement field programs for a variety of natural resource, municipal, land development, and infrastructure projects
- Demonstrate leadership and coordination of staff across different technical teams
- Liaise with public and private sector clients, government review and approval agencies, sub-consultants and community representatives including Indigenous communities as well as the general public and stakeholders on specific development proposals
- Coordinate project team activities, provide direction to project team members, and contribute to development of staff
Technical Development
- Lead the scoping, development, and execution of environmental planning studies and managing, environmental programs including research, field work, and technical report writing.
- Support the development of environmental impact assessments, compensation/offsetting plans, and related environmental permitting assignments at the provincial and federal levels
Learning & Development
- Continued development of self, including both technical skills and business acumen
- Contribution to the career development of less tenured staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring
- Contribution to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
- A university degree or post-undergraduate college diploma in a relevant environmental, physical science, or engineering related discipline. An advanced degree in a related field would be an asset
- Holding any relevant professional designation (e.g., PBiol, RPBiol, PAg), certification, or credential is welcomed and considered a strong asset
- A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated professional experience in environmental consulting or related field with the specific emphasis on environmental assessment and permitting
- Demonstrated experience in business development and client growth across sectors including oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, and/or water management
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to collaborate with and support biologists, ecologists, planners, engineers, and environmental scientists.
- Proficiency in English
Experience
- In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements
- Direct experience in the preparation of regulatory permitting applications and submissions
- General working knowledge of various environmental and social science disciplines with a specific focus on identifying potential environmental effects and mitigation associated with a proposed development. Expertise in a related technical discipline (such as terrestrial ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic biology, air quality, etc.) is desirable but not required
- Understanding of the application of Best Management Practices to environmental compliance and effectiveness monitoring programs
- Project management skills
- Client relationship skills
- Commitment to project quality and capability of meeting project deadlines
Compensation:
$100,000 - $150,000
Dillon is including the salary range that we in good faith believe may offer for this position. It will be dependent on the successful applicant’s education, experience, and skills, in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range, contingent on factors unrelated to an applicant’s gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.
